Bronchitis is basically the inflammation of the large airways (bronchi). When a person has bronchitis, the infection causes the thin mucous membrane lining of the airways to become irritated and inflamed. Because of the irritation and inflammation of the mucous membrane, the body produces large amounts of mucus in the lungs. This in turn causes difficulty in breathing and persistent coughs which can sometime be painful. The coughs may last for several days and even weeks.Excessive coughing will sometime bring some of the excessive phlegm up to the throat. Just spit it out so that you do not swallow it back into your body.
