Reporters with Sports New York (SNY) were given an early preview of 3D TV in person the moment Comcast Cable provided them a test of the technology they intend to make use of at this months Masters golf event. Comcast specialists delivered 3 devices for the demo. A passive 3D TV created by LG, an active 3D TV created by Sony, and a 3D capable computer. Both passive and active technologies will need viewers to utilize glasses, but with passive 3D, a whole lot of the work is done with the TV and the glasses tend to be simple in design. With active 3D, the engineering in most 3D TVs now being produced, viewers have to use higher end glasses that have built-in components that help generate the 3D effect. In the meantime the cost of the passive technology means producers are focusing on active 3D. Comcast, the biggest service provider of Digital Cable TV, Broadband Internet, and Phone service, is the initial huge cable tv company to enter the 3D TV arena when they released plans to broadcast several live hours from the Masters golf tournament in 3D. The broadcast will even be accessible on the web.
