The dugong is a sea creature threatened by the pollution that we allow to wash into the coast. The pollution kills the grasses these gentle beast live off of. The dugong may have been the animals that gave rise to rumors of mermaids. The dugong and its cousin, the manatee, have been around for thousand of years. Most of the countries of the world have outlawed hunting of the dugong.
