There are breeds of snakes that regularly top twenty feet long. The record for the longest snake is twenty eight feet long. There have been many rumors and stories, some of them from credible sources, of snakes much longer, but they have not been able to be verified. part of the problem is that after the snake is dead, it will tend to stretch out. Also, while viewing a live snake, it will coil and is hard to measure, so a guess is taken, and most guesses are over estimated.
