On December 31, 1879, a version of the incandescent light bulb is finally found. The bulb was invented in 1802, but the first versions would not burn long enough to be viable.
On December 31, 1983, the Federal Government finally steps in and breaks up AT&T. The company had been doing business as a monopoly, and the government had been looking the other way for a time, but finally steps in and puts a halt to the company and breaks it up.
