In 1966 Star Trek premiered on September 8th. It was canceled in the third season, but was to spawn a host of other shows.
In 1974, on September 8th, President Ford pardoned President Nixon for any crimes he may have committed with regards to the Watergate scandal. President Nixon had resigned earlier. Many felt that the reason that President Ford was unable to win re-election was because of the pardon.
