Apple has released their much anticipated new firmware for iPhone and iPod touch which is dubbed as iOS 4.0. The GM version of this firmware was released a long time ago but now Apple has released the final firmware on the eve of releasing their new iPhone 4. The new firmware is supported on iPhone 3G/3GS/4 and iPod touch of second and third generation. All the features that were announced in the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2010 by Apple have been included in the final release, except the Game center which has not been included yet. It was in the beta general public version for preview only. All features of new firmware are available for all versions of iPhone except 2G, but with some exceptions. For instance, multi-tasking feature has been included now in the latest release, but it’s not available for iPhone 3G. Similarly, the face-time feature for iPhone 4 – the video chat over WiFi network would not be possible from iPhone 3G/3GS due to hardware limitation. The point is that upgrading to the iOS 4.0 would not ensure that you can have all the new features on your iPhone, unless you have iPhone 4.
