On December 28, 1612, Galileo Galilei, using telescopes that he is known for improving, spied Neptune in the sky. He noted that he spotted it again about a month later. Galileo did not realize that it was moving and not stationary, so he did not know it was a planet and not a star. Therefore, he is not credited with the discovery of Neptune. It was discovered officially in 1846.

There are details of the story that do match with other accounts that have come down through history, so the story of Tell and the apple my be a combination of other stories.

On December 29, 1939, the first B-24 was flown. There was to be eighteen thousand of these planes built in six years, making the B-24 the most produced plane of the war. Maybe not as well known as the B-17 Flying Fortress, it was had more range and more carrying capability. The pilots though, found the B-24 harder to fly than the B-17, so it was not as well liked.

On September 12, 1362, Pope Innocent VI died. Pope Innocent was the fifth of a line of popes that ruled from outside Rome. These seven popes, called the Avignon Popes, ruled from France instead.
