On December 29, 1939, the first B-24 was flown. There was to be eighteen thousand of these planes built in six years, making the B-24 the most produced plane of the war. Maybe not as well known as the B-17 Flying Fortress, it was had more range and more carrying capability. The pilots though, found the B-24 harder to fly than the B-17, so it was not as well liked.
